Terminus
Voor de serie “Terminus” fotografeerde ik drie jaar lang autowrakken. Als reflectie op de vergankelijkheid van het menselijk bestaan. Tegelijkertijd om de schoonheid van de levenscirkel van de natuur te tonen. Op het eerste gezicht lijken de foto's statische stillevens. Op het tweede gezicht zijn er levendige elementen te zien; fladderende vlinders, reflecterende luchten en kruipende lieveheersbeestjes. In het spanningsveld tussen samenleving en natuur vertelt dit autowrak zijn eigen verhaal. Van een strijd waarin de mens aan de winnende hand lijkt te staan. Maar is dat echt zo?
Terminus is in 2015 genomineerd voor de SO2015 fotoprijs.
They seem like monsters, these car wrecks. It's a nice idea and magnificently executed. There's so much to discover in these photos. It isn't a project that you can do in between things. The individual images are interesting, but as a series it works too. It's a thight series, with the cars' headlights at the same height in each image, which makes the cars' different "identities" stand out. You would like to hang these images on a wall, but size does matter: you would like to see it in very large format.

Looking at Iebeltje's photographs of car wrecks I saw secret tragedies. Killed in life where the loss, the fading of all looms. Nothing is forever and that can be seen. Iebeltje shows how nature takes back what she gave. But she does more; she makes the car to be the drama of the man who thought to be beyond transcience.
